Skileraar zijn is als een butler op ski’s

A good ski instructor has their own guests. Some tourists choose their ski resort not for the beautiful hotel or excellent infrastructure, but for the ski instructor. Year after year, their favorite ski instructor is booked weeks in advance to avoid being booked upon arrival. Service is everything.

Service:
Your lesson starts at 9:30, but you, as the ski instructor, will be ready at 9:15 so your guests don’t have to wait for you. Once your guests have found you, you start with a friendly chat without the topic of skiing. How was the trip and how are you enjoying the ski resort?

From the ski school meeting point, it’s a 50-meter walk to the slopes. Keep this in mind for your guests, who already find it difficult enough to walk in ski boots, let alone carrying poles and skis at the same time. As a ski instructor, you’ll take over the skis so your guests can walk to the slopes with the extra support of the poles. Once you arrive at the slopes, first check that the ski boots are securely fastened, then clear the snow from beneath them so they click easily into the bindings.

While skiing, you build up the lesson gradually and regularly ask how your guests are feeling. Are things going too fast or too slow? You adapt your lesson so your guests achieve their goals. When you arrive at the lift, stand where the wait is shortest. You board the lift with your guests so that, after a quick review of the lesson material, you can have a friendly chat about anything non-ski-related. Once at the top, you open the lift and, if necessary, help your guests exit the lift.

For lunch, you choose the most inviting restaurant where you can enjoy the best food and immediately find a table for you and your guests. Recommend the best dishes while telling them about the ski area and what else there is to do. After lunch, you first grab your guests’ skis and put them in the direction you’re going.

During the afternoon, you’ll take some photos or a video of your guests to analyze in the lift. These photos will also make a nice souvenir of the lesson. You’ll stop where you have the most beautiful panoramic view and talk about the high peaks and the surrounding area.

By the end of the afternoon, when you return to the ski school meeting point, it’s 20 minutes later than planned. You’re happy to do this so you can get a little more done during your lesson. You conclude by sharing everything your guests have learned and analyzing the slopes that suddenly went really well today. Naturally, you offer to continue the lesson the next day.

Something extra:
After the lesson, you’re not done yet. You grab a drink at the mountain restaurant and can book tomorrow’s lesson with the ski school. Your guests just need to come to you tomorrow for their second lesson. Because anything can happen, just in case, give them your phone number. This way, your guests can reach you if they’re running late or want to start a bit earlier. Of course, they can always call if you can help them.

What little extra do you offer to keep your guests coming back?
